Restricted Supply of BENPEN™
CSL Biotherapies has
advised hospitals
that new supplies of BENPEN™ (benzylpenicillin sodium) are ready for distribution.
CSL Biotherapies placed BENPEN™ on
restricted supply
last month after the Austrian-based manufacturer of the product, Sandoz GmbH, advised of significant delays in filling orders.
To expedite the replenishment of stock, CSL Biotherapies has flown in filled product from Sandoz GmbH and is completing the outer packaging of BENPEN™ in Australia.
CSL Biotherapies has also sourced benzylpenicillin sodium from Sandoz USA and secured additional stock from a supplier in France, both of which have been approved by the TGA under Section 19A of the Therapeutics Goods Act.
CSL Biotherapies will commence releasing BENPEN™ supplies to Hospitals from 31st October 2011 and expects to return to full stock levels by the end of this year. Some restrictions will remain in place until then to ensure all hospitals nationally receive supply.
In addition to restoring current supplies of BENPEN™, CSL Biotherapies is continuing to work with Sandoz GmbH and other stakeholders to identify and implement strategies that will minimise the risk of any future disruptions to supply in Australia.
